Review of Existing Biofuels Supply Chain Models

Comparing a variety of supply chain models identifies best practices and reveals innovative modeling solutions.

Project Description & Approach

A supply chain model is one tool that can be used to predict the most efficient ways to harvest and transport biofuels feedstock in northeastern Michigan. This project is an initial step in the development of optimization and simulation models representing the supply of woody biomass to a biofuel processing facility in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Before developing these models, researchers reviewed current supply chain models to identify best modeling practices available for adoption or adaptation. The Supply Chain Comparison paper and table below c ompare the current models available to the goals and requirements of the models that will be developed for the northeastern Michigan project.
